Quiz scoring

Auto-grade quiz responses and, if you want, show respondents their score the moment they submit. Google’s own quiz mode can’t do that for people who answer without signing in; TakumiForm can.

Setup (2 minutes)

  1. In Google Forms, open Settings and turn on Make this a quiz, then set points and correct answers on your questions
  2. Sync the form to TakumiForm (open the add-on window, or hit Sync on the dashboard). New here? See Getting started
  3. In the dashboard, open your form and go to the Quiz tab

Scores appear in your Responses tab automatically from there. Showing them to respondents is a separate switch.

What gets auto-graded

Multiple choice, checkbox, and dropdown questions with an answer key. Checkbox questions are all-or-nothing on the exact set of correct answers, same as Google’s default.

Short-answer questions can’t be auto-graded: Google doesn’t share their answer key with add-ons. Grade those in Google Forms as usual; since every response also lands there, nothing about your normal grading workflow changes.

Showing respondents their score

On the Quiz tab:

  • Show respondents their score: adds “Your score: X / Y” to the thank-you screen. Off by default; leave it off for assessments people might retake, since a visible score tells them how close their answers were.
  • Pass / fail threshold: set a percentage and write your own pass and fail messages. They appear with the score.

The score covers auto-graded questions only, so a quiz that’s half short-answer shows the half we can grade, not a misleading total.

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
The Quiz tab says the form isn’t a quizTurn on Make this a quiz in Google Forms settings, then Sync.
”No auto-gradable questions”Set points and correct answers on multiple choice, checkbox, or dropdown questions, then Sync. Answer keys are read at sync time.
Respondents don’t see a scoreTurn on Show respondents their score on the Quiz tab and Save.
Score looks lower than the quiz totalShort-answer points aren’t counted; the score is out of auto-graded points only.
Changed the answer key and old responses didn’t re-gradeScores are computed when a response arrives. Earlier responses keep the grade they got; Google Forms has your full regrade tools.
